In reality, their existence has not been scientifically demonstrated either in the West or in China. The meridians are probably a prefiguration of the circulation of the blood which the ancient Chinese could not know of, but which they sensed existed. Indeed the concept of meridian dates back more than 2000 years. The same is true for the principal Chinese theories. This is why these theories are not included in the seminar. On the other hand, many of the therapeutic gestures recommended in the ancient treaties have retained their value. The doctor presently responsible for giving the seminars has been practising acupuncture, on a full-time basis, since 1976. At the beginning, his practise was based on the ancient Chinese theories which he , therefore, knows well. However, he progressively distanced himself to develop an acupuncture founded uniquely on today's clinical considerations. From this process emerged a set of therapeutic gestures which are standardised, efficient, simple to teach and put into practise. Traditional acupuncture is just as efficient as the contemporary acupuncture which we propose. However, the complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures of the ancient method make any standardisation of treatment very difficult. |
